Frequently asked questions

For most residential pools, weekly servicing provides the most consistent water quality and allows developing problems to be picked up early. Bi-weekly servicing can work well for pools where the owner is prepared to carry out basic maintenance between visits, including checking chlorine and pH, removing leaves and emptying baskets.

With weekly service, our team looks after the pool every week. Bi-weekly pools are serviced every second week, with the owner taking responsibility for basic care between visits. The right option depends on the pool, how heavily it is used, surrounding vegetation, equipment and how much maintenance the owner wants to do themselves.

Regular servicing includes cleaning and vacuuming the pool, brushing where required, cleaning the scum line and baskets, backwashing and rinsing the filter when needed, testing and balancing the water, adding chemicals, and checking the pool system and equipment for obvious problems.

Clear water isn’t necessarily correctly balanced water. pH, sanitiser levels, alkalinity, stabiliser, hardness and other factors affect how well pool chemicals work and can also affect pool surfaces and equipment. Proper testing removes the guesswork from chemical treatment.

It can help reduce unnecessary chemical use. Continually adding chemicals without knowing what the water actually needs can waste product without solving the underlying problem. Testing first allows the pool to be treated more accurately and helps avoid repeated corrective dosing.

A green pool is not always simply a lack of chlorine. Algae can take hold because of poor water balance, inadequate circulation, insufficient filtration, equipment problems or a combination of factors. If a pool repeatedly turns green, it is important to identify the cause rather than continually adding more chemicals.

Yes. Our green-to-clean service combines the appropriate water treatment with cleaning, filtration and ongoing assessment until the pool is brought back under control. Very neglected pools can take longer, and the condition of the filtration system will affect how quickly the water clears.

Filter sand does not need replacing simply because a certain number of years has passed. Poor filtration, persistent cloudy water, reduced filter performance and recurring water-quality problems can all indicate that the filter media needs attention. We prefer to assess the condition and performance of the filtration system before recommending a sand change.

Cloudy water can have several causes, including incorrect water balance, poor filtration, fine suspended particles, inadequate circulation or equipment problems. Adding more chemicals is not always the solution. Correct diagnosis can prevent a cycle of unnecessary chemical treatment.

We inspect and troubleshoot pool equipment as part of our broader pool-care service and can identify problems affecting circulation, filtration and water quality. Catching equipment problems early can often prevent them from becoming bigger pool problems.

Yes. With more than 30 years of hands-on pool experience, there is very little our team has not encountered. Persistent water-quality problems are often symptoms of something else, so we look at the water chemistry, filtration, circulation and equipment together rather than treating each issue in isolation.

Yes. Our team works with a variety of pool systems and tests the water according to the requirements of the individual pool and its equipment.

Yes. Waterline Pools looks after pools for permanent residents, holiday-property owners, guest houses and homeowners who spend extended periods away. Regular servicing means the pool continues to be monitored and maintained while the owner is not there.

Our regular service routes cover Somerset West, Stellenbosch, Strand and Gordon’s Bay, including many residential estates and surrounding neighbourhoods.

Contact Waterline Pools and tell us a little about your pool, where you are located and what assistance you need. We can then advise on the most appropriate service or arrange to assess the pool where necessary.
